Toyota just said they WILL make an NA 467hp 5.0 V8 and attach a 10 speed Auto to it, strap it into a derivate of the Neo-Supra concept under the idea that the words Boring and Lexus are never spoken in the same sentence ever again?
I kinda like it.
What are your thoughts, oppo?

It’s definitely good looking, although I remain cautious because similar thigns were said about the RC-F when it was teased, and it proved disappointing once delivered. It’d be a good opportunity for them to redeem themselves though!

My thoughts, love that engine and love that Akio Toyoda is one of the Lexus development drivers. The biggest thing for me though is that the V8 from the RC-F and GS-F is only the LC500 engine. This means there is a great chance for a hybrid LC600H model to make some torque while without losing the high-revving nature and sound. I don’t think they’ll make a full on F model, definitely an F-sport package though.

I like it. Will this be a Toyota Soarer in Japan?

I love the V8, the side profile and the rear. Not a big fan of the interior design, i’m sure it’s going to be incredible well built and the materials are top notch but the design of it, not so much. But damn, i hate those headlights more than the predator grille.

Replace the 10 speed with a 6 and I’ll be a happy panda.

Is this car supposed to compete with the Mercedes S-Class Coupe/Bentley Continental GT/Aston Martin Vanquish or with the BMW 6-Series/Mercedes SL-Class?

Yeah. I wonder how useful those 10 gears will really be. It’ll certainly be very efficient to save fuel with an NA engine. But not very good for its sportiness.
My guess is journos will say that the excess of gears kills its sportiness and makes it feel like a CVT.

That’s an interesting thought.

That engine already exists. They put it in the RC F and GS F.
Also, it sounds glorious.

A bit over-styled, a bit over-priced and a bit of a odd duck. I mean, an old-fashioned NA 5.0 V8 mated to a 10-speed auto? Outside of fuel economy ... why? Also, why would they care about fuel economy in their halo car? Let the volume selling models help Toyota’s CAFE numbers.
The style makes it look like a true sports car but everything else just makes it seem like another Lexus.
I am keeping an open mind until the first drives and reviews come in, though.

Actually, the 10 speed auto is probably there to keep the 5.0 in its narrow power band.
As for the whole car, if it was about 30k cheaper it would be perfect. But a 100k car needs quite a bit more.

How about expensive and not competitive with BMW, Corvette? Toyota needs a different motor.
